Court rules against Ado Bayero, 4 others
The judgment, which was delivered on Monday, July 15 by Justice Amina Aliyu of the Kano State High Court prohibits the 15th Emir of Kano and four other former Emirs of Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye, along with their servants, associates, and anyone appointed by them, from representing themselves as Emirs of Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano, and Karaye.
Kano Assembly amends, proposes bills
Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu, while delivering the judgment, upheld that the Kano State House of Assembly has the constitutional authority, under section 4, rules 6 and 7(b) of the 1999 Constitution as amended, to amend and propose bills for the state's peace and good governance.
“The Kano State Governor has the right to ascent the proposed bill to law after being passed by the state assembly,” she stated.
Deposed emirs to leave within 48 hours
Justice Aliyu explained in her judgment that the issue of evicting the deposed Emir, Bayero, from the Nassarawa mini palace pertains to a rent tribunal and is not within her jurisdiction.
“The deposed Emirs shall surrender all movable and immovable properties in their possession that belong to the Kano State Emirate Council to the state government,” Adamu-Aliyu stated.
The government also gave the deposed Emirs 48 hours to vacate their respective palaces after being deposed.
Muhammadu Sanusi II was earlier dethroned
Recall that on Thursday, June 20, the presiding judge, Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman, declared illegal the dethronement of the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, and four others, thereby dethroning Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Earlier, a suit was filed by the Kano State Government seeking an order from the High Court to stop the 15th Emir, Bayero, along with four other Emirs of Karaye, Bichi, Rano, and Gaya, from claiming the title of Emir.
