President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to leave Abuja for the United Kingdom for two weeks as part of his annual leave on Wednesday, October 2.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
He posted on his X handle, @aonanuga1956, explaining that the president will spend two weeks in the United Kingdom to reflect on his administration’s economic reforms.
He posted: “President Tinubu goes on annual leave. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja today for the United Kingdom to begin a two-week vacation, part of his yearly leave.
“He will use the two weeks as a working vacation and a retreat to reflect on his administration's economic reforms. He will return to the country after the leave expires.”
This new information has generated mixed reactions from Nigerians. When the news broke out, Nigerians took to social media to air their opinion on the President’s leave and impending trip out of the country.
Many people found it weird that the president would leave the country when Nigerians are facing one of the worst economic hardships ever. Some netizens made jokes about the situation while others thought he should have stayed in Nigeria for his leave.
A few netizens did not criticise him for taking a break, they claimed he deserves to rest because he has been working a lot for the country.

While reacting to the news, some people said they expected him to hand over the affairs of the nation to the Vice President Kashim Shettima. Many Nigerians claimed he doesn’t need a holiday as he has not been performing his duties as the president. Others who were indifferent said he could add two months to his leave.

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu came under fire on social media for telling Nigerians that his administration is beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel as the reforms he is implementing are showing positive signs.
He said this while addressing Nigerians in the early hours of the 64th anniversary of Nigeria’s Independence Day on Tuesday, October 1.
