1. Godswill Obot Akpabio (Akwa Ibom North-West)
Godswill Akpabio, 61 years old, currently serving as the Senate President, represents Akwa Ibom North-West. He assumed office on June 13, 2023, succeeding Chris Ekpenyong. Akpabio is a significant figure in Nigerian politics, having previously served as a senator (2015-2019) and the Governor of Akwa Ibom State (2007-2015).
Born on December 9, 1962, Akpabio holds a law degree from the University of Calabar. He has held key positions, including Senate Minority Leader (2015-2018) and Minister of Niger Delta Affairs (2019-2022).
2. Aniekan Bassey (Akwa Ibom North-East)
Aniekan Bassey, 49 years old, a businessman and politician, represents Akwa Ibom North-East in the 10th Senate. He took office on June 13, 2023, succeeding Bassey Albert. Bassey is also the Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture Production Services and Rural Development.
Born in 1979, Bassey was previously the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (2015-2023). He has held several leadership roles, including Vice Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria.
3. Sampson Ekong Akpan (Akwa Ibom South)
Sampson Ekong Akpan, 57 years old, serves as the Senator representing Akwa Ibom South, marking his second term in the Senate. Born in 1967, Akpan is a distinguished graduate in Mass Communication from the Polytechnic, Calabar, and also holds a law degree, having been called to the bar in 1991.
In addition to his legislative work, Akpan is an author and poet, known for works such as “Parliamentarism in Nigeria: An Odyssey in the Niger Delta”. He has also held various political roles, including Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Council and Commissioner of Environment and Petroleum Resources in Akwa Ibom State.
