The Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has formally submitted his nomination form to contest the 2027 governorship election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

The development was disclosed on Friday, May 8, by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, in a statement shared via Facebook.

According to the statement, Yusuf was accompanied during Thursday’s submission by former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Senator Kawu Sumaila, members of the House of Representatives, and several APC stakeholders from Kano State.

“Briefing journalists at Treasure Suites shortly after the submission of his nomination form, Governor Yusuf described the declaration for a second term as a fresh call to service and a renewed commitment to the people of Kano State,” the statement noted.

The governor said his administration would intensify urban renewal efforts across the state, with greater focus on road construction, drainage projects, and market modernisation.

He also reiterated his commitment to rural development, promising increased investments in feeder roads, healthcare centres, schools, and water supply projects in rural communities.

Yusuf further pledged stronger support for agriculture and empowerment initiatives aimed at farmers and young people, stressing that job creation and youth development would remain central to his government’s priorities.

The governor reaffirmed his resolve to improve education and healthcare delivery across the state while maintaining peace, unity, and inclusive leadership as core pillars of his administration.

“He said his administration would expand urban renewal projects across the state, while road construction, drainage expansion and market modernisation would receive greater attention,” the statement added.

Yusuf also pledged continued collaboration with stakeholders to advance the state’s development and reiterated his support for the Renewed Hope Agenda as part of efforts to attract more federal projects and opportunities to Kano State.

The governor thanked Kano residents for their continued support and confidence in his leadership, assuring them of transparent governance and people-focused development.

Yusuf defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the APC on January 26, 2026, following internal crises within the NNPP.

His return to the ruling party was accompanied by several lawmakers and local government chairmen.

Following the defection, APC stakeholders in Kano unanimously endorsed him as the party’s sole governorship candidate and presented him with the expression of interest and nomination forms ahead of the 2027 election.

Gov. Yusuf pledges expanded youth empowerment to drive Kano’s economic growth

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had assured young people in the state of his administration’s continued commitment to youth empowerment as a catalyst for economic growth.

The governor emphasised that meaningful development cannot be achieved without the active participation of young people.

He said his government remains determined to expand opportunities for youths and integrate them more fully into governance and leadership structures.
