- Amaka Sunnberger boasted that she cannot be deported as she is a citizen of Canada
- Some Nigerians defend her saying her threats were only in response to the threats of Edo and Yoruba people
- Nigerians reacted, with some suggesting that her citizenship can be revoked
The woman in the viral video, who threatened the lives of Yoruba and Edo people, Amaka Patience Sunnberger, has said that she cannot be deported because she has a Canadian passport.
Sunnberger said this in a video during a TikTok Live session with her fellow Igbo people in response to a comment which said she would be deported to Nigeria because of her hateful comments.
She said: “Somebody just send message tell me say they arrest me, i dey airport, they wan deport me, with passport? I be Canada pikin.”
She said the person was just lying and proceeded to show her surroundings, confirming that she was at home at the time.
Some Nigerians have also dug up a video of people assumed to be of Benin origin making threats to the lives of Igbo children. Some people, especially Igbi people have defended the woman saying she only responded to those threats from the Benin people.
A few others have also called on the government to prosecute people who have also made threats to Igbo people in Nigeria.
Recall that the chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri Erewa identified Amaka Patience Sunnberger as the woman who made threats to the lives of Yoruba and Edo people in Canada. The House of Representatives also filed a petition to the Canadian High Commissioner regarding the matter.
Nigerians react to Sunnberger’s Canada citizenship claim
Some Nigerians believe that having a Canadian passport doesn’t stop her from being prosecuted. Others think her citizenship can be revoked. While some hope she faces the wrath of the law for her actions, others called out the government for not punishing other bigots.
