  • A Lagos resident, Shuaib Adeosun, died weeks after a neighbour allegedly pushed him during a dispute over construction materials in Okota
  • Autopsy confirmed Adeosun’s death to be from blunt force trauma, while the suspect, Adeyemo Surajudeen, admitted to pushing the victim
  • Following reported unfulfilled promises by Surajudeen and the withholding of Adeosun’s remains over unpaid bills, the family of the deceased petitioned the Police and Lagos DPP, demanding prosecution as the case stalls months after the incident

The family of late Shuaib Alani Adeosun, popularly known as Baba Adeosun, has renewed its call on the Nigerian Police Force and the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) to charge Adeyemo Surajudeen, also known as Alhaji Sura, to court over an incident that allegedly led to Adeosun’s death.

Baba Adeosun died on September 21, 2025, sixteen days after he was reportedly pushed by Alhaji Sura during an argument over broken blocks at a construction site on Ebemoha Street, along Queensland Academy, Okota, Lagos, where both men lived.

According to eyewitness accounts, the altercation occurred on Friday, September 5, 2025, after members of a neighbouring church began collecting broken blocks lying fallow between the two men’s houses. Baba Adeosun had reportedly obtained permission from the site engineer to release the blocks for use in filling potholes near the church.

During the collection, Alhaji Sura confronted those packing the blocks, insisting on ownership. When Baba Adeosun arrived at the site, a heated argument ensued, during which Alhaji Sura allegedly pushed him to the ground. Witnesses said Baba Adeosun collapsed and lost consciousness shortly after.

He was rushed to Ago Medical Centre, Okota, before being referred for scans, which reportedly revealed severe internal injuries and a broken neck. Doctors advised immediate admission to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and emergency surgeries.

After failed attempts to secure ICU space at several public hospitals, Baba Adeosun was eventually admitted to Awesome Grace Hospital on September 7, 2025, where surgery was performed. He remained in a coma until his death on September 21, 2025.

A post-mortem examination conducted at LASUTH and released on October 27, 2025, listed the cause of death as intracranial haemorrhage due to blunt force trauma.

At the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Alhaji Sura reportedly admitted to pushing Baba Adeosun during questioning before the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dayo Akinbisehin, and was subsequently remanded on September 17, 2025, after the case was transferred from Ago Police Division.

However, despite the autopsy report and multiple written petitions to the police authorities and the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, the family says the suspect has yet to be charged to court.

Letters were submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Panti, and the Commissioner of Police, Ikeja, on October 29 and October 31, 2025, requesting prosecution. A further petition was addressed to the Director of Public Prosecution, Alausa, on December 17, 2025.

As of the time of reporting, the family says they are still awaiting the DPP’s legal advice required to proceed with a formal arraignment. Baba Adeosun’s body remains in the morgue, withheld from the family over an outstanding hospital bill of N7,774,600.

The family is now publicly appealing to the relevant authorities to ensure that the matter is charged to court without further delay.
