Nigerian Afrobeats star Bella Shmurda has candidly opened up about a turbulent period in his career when poor financial decisions nearly pushed him into bankruptcy.
Speaking during a recent interview with Nigerian YouTuber Korty EO, the “Cash App” crooner reflected on how the excitement of sudden fame led him into reckless spending and unsustainable habits.
“I used to have a lot of money but I rushed things. I wish I was wise then,” he admitted.
The singer explained that, at the peak of his early success, he became carried away by the allure of wealth, making impulsive purchases that later proved unnecessary.
“I was just buying things extravagantly, things I eventually had no need for,” he said.
Beyond personal spending, Bella revealed that his finances were further strained by the responsibility he took on for a large circle of friends.
Determined to maintain a lavish lifestyle for himself and those around him, he found himself covering expenses that quickly added up.
“I was accommodating up to ten of my friends back then and we were all receiving female visitors,” he revealed.
In one striking example of his excesses, the singer disclosed that he once purchased multiple luxury vehicles simply to match the lifestyle he envisioned for his crew.
“I bought three cars at once just so that my friends would go out with me in convoy,” he said.
Looking back, Bella did not mince words when describing that chapter of his life.
“I was reckless,” he stated bluntly.
However, the experience has since marked a turning point for the Afrobeats star. He noted that he now approaches money with greater caution and intentionality, carefully evaluating his decisions as his career continues to grow.
“At this point, as I am getting new money, I have to think about every move I want to take,” he added.
Bella Shmurda also used his story as a cautionary tale, urging fans and fellow artists to prioritise financial discipline and avoid learning difficult lessons the hard way.
His reflection has resonated widely, highlighting the pressures that often accompany sudden fame and the importance of managing wealth wisely.
