Nollywood actress and producer Abimbola Craig, known for her role as Tiwalade in Skinny Girl in Transit, recently shared her struggle with a brain tumour.
The 38-year-old actress, who produced all six seasons of Skinny Girl in Transit and co-produced Sugar Rush, opened up about her medical struggles and how she discovered it.
Speaking during an interview shared by popular media personality Chude Jideonwo on Wednesday, November 20, Abimbola disclosed that she discovered some changes in her body, which eventually led to the discovery of her brain tumour.
“I had just taken a shower and I was lying down on my bed. I noticed that my top was wet by my left breast. 2 hours later, I woke up again and it was wet. I was like hmmm. So, I sat down on the bed and I remembered pressing my breast and I saw milk. I was like this is crazy. Then, we got to America and I did an MRI and it showed that I had a tumour around my brain. My war started after that surgery,” she said.
Abimbola, who previously worked as the Head of Productions at Ndani TV, also spoke on why she has a YouTube video on her page titled Marriage is a Scam.
The video, released in 2022, expressed her personal views on marriage and how she saw the phenomenon in relation to herself.
“So, first of all, marriage is a scam. From when I was small, my mom told me. Marriage is an institution. They say when they call you Mrs., They call you His Masters in Residential Service. I'm not married, not because I don't want to get married. If you're a man who doesn't know who he is, you cannot be with me,” she noted.
Dealing with the critical review of ‘Glamour Girls’
In the interview, Abimbola touched on how she dealt with Nigerians' critical review of her film, Glamour Girls.
The 2022 movie, after its release, received numerous backlash for its storyline, especially in comparison to the original 1994 version.
“If I sit down here and tell you what everybody who worked on Glamour girls went through. Shooting in Lagos, Abuja and Lebanon. Ah, I called my mother and I cried. So, I sit down there when I hear this feedback, it hurts me for the people that know what they put into it,” she said.
In 2022, Glamour Girls, an attempted remake of a 1994 film of the same title, was produced by Abimbola Craig. The Netflix-distributed film starred faces like Sharon Ooja, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Toke Makinwa and others.
The story captures women embarking on glamorous and luxurious lifestyles through prostitution. The initial plan was to remake the film, which was originally the 1994 title, but it became an original story with a different storyline.
