Nigerian Afrobeats singer and songwriter Stanley Dibia, popularly known as Omah Lay, has recently opened up about an intellectual property theft he experienced in the industry.

The 27-year-old singer alleged that a certain artiste, whose name he didn't mention, stole the sound production idea he shared with the artiste.

In a recent interview on Zach Sang's podcast on Thursday, August 22, Omah Lay talked about his recently released song, Moving, experimentation of new sounds and his upcoming album ‘Clarity of Mind.’

During the interview, the singer revealed an intellectual property theft that transpired between him and an artiste in the Nigerian Afrobeats industry.

I was going to make the new album with my new sound but along the line, I changed my mind. I shared an idea with a certain artiste. When I heard he pulled out an album with my idea, I had to go back and re-record my album. So, I had this idea to do something with the sound and he came to me and asked me. He is an artiste I loved for sure.

“I was like yea, lets collaborate. This is where I am heading with Afrobeats. I think this is the way and then 5 months later, he pulled out an album with exactly the same sound that I shared with him. So, I had to go back and remake my album, which is actually going to be the greatest album of all time in the history of Afrobeats,” he explained.

Omah Lay, noting that he had never spoken about the incident publicly, also expressed how hurt the experience left him because he was human enough to share his ideas.

This is definitely not something I want to talk about but it has been there in my mind. I was pissed at the fact that I was human enough to have shared an idea and it happened the way it happened. Yea, but I'm making the greatest Afrobeats album and it is coming,” the singer added.

Omah Lay previews a new upcoming single ‘Moving’ in New York

Earlier, TheRadar reported that Afrobeats sensation Omah Lay recently gave fans a sneak peek of his single ‘Moving’ during an electrifying performance at an Amazon Music event in New York, USA.

The 27-year-old singer had dropped hints about his much-anticipated second album, Clarity of Mind, in July. The snippet of his new single ‘Moving’ further builds the anticipation.
