How the Hallelujah Challenge started in Nigeria
In June 2017, Nathaniel, the Imela crooner broke the internet for the first time. The singer held Nigerians for 30 days with his popular Hallelujah challenge.
The online event was tagged ‘Olowogbogboro’ in which he had live worship of songs at midnight for one hour on Facebook and Instagram.
At the time, many Nigerians defied sleep to join the challenge and it was reported that many testimonies of healing and breakthroughs were recorded.
The popularity of the challenge got the attention of the CNN as well as several celebrities in Nigeria, who commended the initiative.
According to the Guardian on how it became a cultural phenomenon, it stated that the Challenge, which started with about 1,000 participants, later got as many 72,000 live worshippers (68,300 on Instagram, 9,000+ on Facebook) in less than 15 days.
Though not reaching the online numbers projected by many, the Challenge consistently gathered over 50,000 on Instagram and far more on other social media platforms.
Since it started eight years ago, the Hallelujah challenge has continued to date.

What started as just a challenge in Nigeria has grown to become a global religious challenge that spans across 60 countries of the world.
