Exploring the escapades of a historic Egba warrior, Nigerian actor and filmmaker Lateef Adedimeji is set to release his anticipated film, Lisabi: The Uprising, on September 27.
The biopic film, with over 2000 cast members, is said to be a means of cultural preservation and history, particularly to the Egba people of Abeokuta.
Making the announcement via X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, August 21, Adedimeji expressed his excitement to his fans, noting what inspired his journey on Lisabi.
“Lisabi is here. My newborn is here. My long-awaited biopic chronicling the escapades of the Ultimate Egba Warrior farmer #LISABI is finally here.
“After my exploits in the Ayinla movie, I knew I had to do this to further glorify my Egba heritage. EGBA people, this is for you!!!!! The entire Yoruba, Africa and Blacks worldwide, this is for you!!!!!”
The 40-year-old actor, via his post, also revealed that the film, which is a Netflix Original movie, would be in two parts and released separately.
The first part, Lisabi: The Uprising, will air on Netflix on September 27, while the other Lisabi: A Legend is Born will be released in January 2025.
“We are proud of everyone who made this happen, from the amazing director @niyiakinmolayan , to the cast and crew of this masterpiece. It's time for us to celebrate the energy we all brought to the table. Save the date.” Adedimeji added.
Lasibi is solely produced by Lateef Adedimeji and his wife, Adebimpe Oyebade, while Niyi Akinmolayan brought his directorial game to the film.
