Usually in an attempt to blackmail celebrities, private videos have found their way to the internet to escalate controversies.
With many instances of public figures and celebrities' private videos that have gone viral on various social media platforms, TheRadar curated a list of the most controversial ones in the last two years.

- Egungun of Lagos (2024)
The most recent reported leaked private video of popular Media Personality, Kuye Adegoke popularly known as Egungun, has left the internet especially X (formerly Twitter) buzzing.
Egungun’s fiancee had raised the alarm to open up about a blackmailer threatening her with the private video of her fiance. In a long post, she shared the details and mostly defended Egungun, who she claimed has never cheated on her.
In a turn of events, Egungun’s private video was later leaked and the content raises questions about his fidelity to his fiancee. With over 40,000 interactions on X, it is trending on social media.
- EloSwag (2024)
In November 2024, former Big Brother housemate Eloka Nwamu popularly known as Eloswag had his private video trending all over social media. The reality star claimed he mistakenly posted the video on his Snapchat. However, before deleting it, a blogger already has access to it and posted it for public consumption. Eloswag threatened to take legal action against the blogger.
- Moyo Lawal (2023)
Nollywood actress Moyo Lawal made headlines after a private video of her making out with an unknown man trended on social media. Many slammed the actress saying she intentionally released it just to trend. However, the actress addressed the claim and said the video was released without her consent. She also threatened to take legal action against anyone involved in the leakage.
- Oxlade (2022)
Nigerian singer Ikuforiji Olaitan known as Oxlade is another celebrity whose private video made its way to the internet. In 2022, the singer had his fair share when according to him, he mistakenly uploaded his private video on Snapchat. Although he deleted it almost immediately, the video somehow found it online.
It trended across social media and had netizens talking. Months later, Oxlade made a public apology to his fans revealing that he was betrayed by the video. Meanwhile, Oxlade paid N5 million in damages to the woman involved in the video. The video was posted without her consent.
- Tiwa Savage (2021)
The Afrobeats queen Tiwa Savage made the headlines after her private video surfaced online. The sex tape video was leaked in 2021. The singer, who broke the news herself, disclosed that she was being blackmailed for it but would rather open up about it.
The controversy at the time took the internet by storm. However, she later addressed the leaked video controversy in her 2022 song, Loaded. In her Yoruba lines she sang, ‘Awon blogger blogger ti won Fi mi gba star. Sex Tape o le baye mi je.,’ which translates to ‘Bloggers wanted to use me to shine but sex tape can not destroy my life.’
Ini Edo, Hilda Baci, others dragged as blogger makes bold allegations against Akpabio
TheRadar earlier reported that controversial social media blog Gistlover named Hilda Baci, Dakore Akande, Idi Edo and other female celebrities as the alleged side chicks of Nigeria's senate president, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
This is coming after a women's group, FLEADERS Nigeria, demanded an apology from the senate president over his sexist remark towards a female lawmaker representing Kogi Central in the senate, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Akpabio had addressed the senator, saying that the Senate chamber was not a nightclub and she must be recognised before speaking during plenary.
