- Nigerian Afrobeats singer Bloody Civilian has been slammed with a N200 billion lawsuit for a social media comment she made
- The suit filed by Helen Ukpabio alleges defamation against her reputation as a pastor
- Netizens shared mixed on the controversial N200 billion lawsuit
The president and founder of Liberty Foundation Gospel Ministries, Helen Ukpabio, and her daugher Imaobong Elijah, have slammed Afrobeats singer Emoseh Khamofu, popularly known as Bloody Civilian, with a N200 billion lawsuit for alleged defamation.
The controversy started on Friday, November 22, with an X blogger identified as @onejoblessboy, who shared news of Ukpabio’s 60th birthday celebration.
The post was later retweeted with a claim by Bloody Civilian saying, “She literally made people burn their children alive,”
The controversial claim sparked reactions online and a response from Ukpabio’s daughter who gave Bloody Civilian a five-hour ultimatum to take down her post or face legal action.
In a letter dated November 25, which was retweeted by Bloody Civilian on Saturday, November 23, Helen Ukpabio through her legal counsel Victor Ukutt and Co., demanded a public apology from the Afrobeats singer alleging that defamation.
What Ukapabio’s lawsuit demanded
The letter described Bloody Civilian's tweets as ‘satanic, reckless and libellous,’ adding that her claim was devoid of any iota of truth with the intention to ridicule the Akwa Ibom pastor.
It also alleged that Bloody Civilian’s retweet on X implied that Helen Ukpabio, promotes the killing of children labelled as witches; uses her teachings to encourage exorcism, leading to child abuse, abandonment, and death, and is unfit to live in a decent society.
“Our clients’ attention has been drawn to your reckless, satanic, and libellous posts on X (formerly Twitter), one of the world’s largest social media platforms. Using your verified account, #bloody__civ, on 22 November 2024, you wrote: ‘She literally made people burn their children alive’ and ‘See, she’s gotten banned from the UK for her atrocities,’ among other statements.
“Take notice that in consideration of this wicked and libellous publication, we demand from you the sum of two hundred billion naira (N200,000,000,000) as damages for the distress, trauma, pain, and anguish caused to our clients. This sum must be channelled to our chambers within one week of receiving this letter,” the letter further stated in part.
