Afrobeats star CKay has officially wrapped up his recording contract with Warner Music South Africa, signalling the conclusion of a significant chapter in his career.
Known for his widespread hits like Love Nwantiti and Emiliana, CKay stated that the decision to not renew his contract was both mutual and strategic.
“Every journey has a beginning and an end, and my journey with Warner Music South Africa was a very important one which I’m grateful for. Now it’s time for me to explore new energy and new horizons,” he remarked.
Having garnered over 2 billion streams and established himself as a key figure in elevating Afrobeats on the global stage, CKay’s next steps are greatly anticipated.
Inside sources indicate that fans can expect a significant announcement soon, hinting at a fresh wave of music and artistic direction.
In addition, CKay launched his own record label, Boyfriend Music Limited, in collaboration with his childhood friend and manager, Joseph Salubi. He gained prominence with the hit single ‘Love Nwantiti’ in 2019, which has since become one of Afrobeats' most significant exports, pushing Nigerian music into international markets.
The track, a highlight of CKay’s EP ‘CKay The First,’ saw incredible success, particularly on TikTok in 2021, and was later certified RIAA 8 times platinum. Notably, ‘Love Nwantiti’ holds the record as the most certified Nigerian song in the United States.
Initially signed to Loopy Music, CKay merged with Chocolate City in 2015 but later revealed that he was officially with Warner Music South Africa from 2021 onwards.
