The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards is gearing up for its 12th edition, with organisers promising a more expansive and inclusive celebration of African film and television excellence.

The prestigious award ceremony is slated for May 9, 2026, forming the highlight of a lineup of activities leading up to what is widely regarded as Africa’s biggest entertainment event.

The new edition was officially unveiled on Thursday, March 26, 2026, during a press conference held at the MultiChoice Studio, where key stakeholders across the creative industry gathered to outline plans for the upcoming awards.

Since its inception in 2013, the AMVCA has evolved into a major platform for recognising excellence in African storytelling while contributing significantly to the continent’s creative economy.

Organisers revealed that the awards have generated over 30,000 jobs spanning production, logistics, and technical services.

Speaking at the event, Atinuke Babatunde, Executive Head of Content and Channels at MultiChoice West Africa, emphasised that this year’s edition will shine a spotlight on behind-the-scenes contributors in the film industry.

She said the awards go beyond glamour, focusing on craftsmanship by recognising the vital contributions of writers, directors, editors, designers, and technicians.

The 12th edition will also introduce new categories to broaden its pan-African reach, including Best Indigenous Language, North Africa and Best Indigenous Language, Central Africa, aimed at celebrating the continent’s cultural and linguistic diversity.

In total, the awards will feature 32 categories, comprising 18 jury-decided awards, 11 public voting categories, and three special recognitions, including Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer honours.

Veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva has been appointed as Head Judge for this year’s edition, bringing her wealth of industry experience to the role.

The event is headlined by Don Julio as lead sponsor, with additional support from major brands such as Guinness and MTN.

Organisers also disclosed that nominees for the 2026 edition will be announced on March 29 during a live broadcast on Africa Magic channels, hosted by actor Chiemezie Imo.

The AMVCA continues to stand as a vital platform for showcasing African talent, celebrating creativity, and promoting cultural expression across the continent.
