‘No place like home,’ would suffice for the drive and passion of holding homecoming concerts in the Nigerian music scene.

These concerts are usually organised for the love of loyal fans and as a way to bring the same global experience artistes share abroad back home.

Homecoming concerts, in simple terms, observe the tradition of welcoming back alumnis, indigenes or members of a community.

Recently, a homecoming concert was held by Nigerian singer Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, in Benin, Edo State.

The event saw Rema honoured with an arena, Rema Dome, which was named after him. This gesture was shared by the state governor, Godwin Obaseki during the groundbreaking ceremony.

In 2022, Chinedu Okolie, known as Flavour, kicked off the year with his homecoming concert in Anambra. The event thrilled fans with special performances from Phyno, Whitemoney, Ugoccie and Funnybone.

Numerous Nigerian artistes, in the same vein, have held homecoming concerts to honour their fans and identify with where they came from.

Following this, TheRadar highlights 10 iconic homecoming concerts by Nigerian artistes.

Album Review: “HEIS” is Rema’s monotonous outburst for recognition

Earlier, TheRadar reviewed Rema’s album, which continued the evolution of the 24-year-old's music journey, while signalling a monotonous outburst to seek recognition.

Considering the title of the album and its meaning, Rema, born Divine Ikubor, made a rather bold declaration of himself as “number one” in the music game - which is quite controversial.
