- Manchester United suffered another setback as Ruben Amorim’s side lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest despite dominating possession and creating chances
- Anthony Elanga’s stunning early goal proved decisive, with United failing to break down a resilient Forest defence despite 23 shots on goal.
- United remain stuck in 13th place, struggling to find consistency in the Premier League as pressure mounts on their new manager.
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim was left frustrated after his side fell to a 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest, insisting that his team “helped” Nuno Espirito Santo’s men secure all three points.
Despite dominating possession and registering 23 shots, United failed to break down Forest’s resilient defence, ultimately leaving the City Ground empty-handed.
The game’s decisive moment came early when former Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga stunned the visitors with a brilliant opener.
United responded by piling on the pressure, but with only six of their shots on target, they lacked the clinical edge needed to turn their dominance into goals.
After the game, Amorim expressed his disappointment, describing United’s struggles in the final third,
“We controlled the game, but we already knew that this team can score goals out of nothing. When they scored, we changed the game a little bit for what they wanted. We tried, but in the last third, the last cross, the last pass, the last assist wasn’t there. If we don’t have that, we cannot score goals,” he said.
The Portuguese manager also criticised the way his team conceded Elanga’s goal, admitting that it played right into Forest’s hands,
“You know the characteristics of a team. You know that one goal can put them in a situation that they love, more space for transitions, and we have to score two goals to win a match. That is frustrating.”
Amorim made several attacking substitutions in a bid to salvage the game, introducing Rasmus Højlund, Mason Mount, and even deploying Harry Maguire as an emergency forward. However, none of these changes yielded the desired result.
Despite the defeat, the United boss insisted that progress was being made, though he acknowledged that results need to improve,
“I see progress in the game. I don’t lie to myself. Everybody can say whatever they want, I see some things, but we need to win games. That is the focus.”
With United now sitting 13th in the Premier League, Amorim will hope his side can bounce back quickly as they prepare for their next Europa League and domestic fixtures.
