- Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim warned of tough times ahead of Arsenal game despite remaining unbeaten in his first three matches as manager
- Amorim expressed surprise at the demands of managing a club like United and emphasised the need for patience as his squad adapts to his 3-4-3 system
- The Portuguese coach warned fans that “the storm will come” as United faces challenges during their transitional phase
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has played down expectations ahead of his toughest test so far, a midweek clash against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
Despite his unbeaten start at Old Trafford, the Portuguese tactician cautioned supporters, insisting that difficult times lie ahead as his squad continues to adapt to his style and tactics.
Amorim, who joined Manchester United from Sporting CP, has guided his team to two victories and a draw in his first three matches in charge. His latest success came in a dominant 4-0 win over Everton, but he remained grounded when speaking at a press conference ahead of Wednesday’s showdown with second-placed Arsenal.
While Amorim praised his players’ efforts during his short tenure, he didn’t shy away from warning fans about the challenges that still await,
“I would like to say different things, but I have to say it again, the storm will come, we are going to have difficult moments, and we will be found out in some games. I know that because I know my players, and I know football.”
He admitted the team is still in the early stages of implementing his 3-4-3 system, emphasising the need to focus on one game at a time,
"We are putting simple things into the team without much training, let’s focus on each game, on improving our performance, and trying to win games. That is the focus.”
Amorim acknowledged the pressure of managing Manchester United, a club with immense expectations, and compared his current situation to that of Arsenal,
“We want to win all the time, but we know that we are in a different position compared to Arsenal,” he said.
The 38-year-old manager also opened up about the adjustments required to manage a club of United’s magnitude. He described the experience as both surprising and challenging, saying,
“You don’t know how life is at this kind of club until you are here. It’s always a surprise.”
Amorim also revealed that the demands go far beyond coaching,
“You have to do much more than manage the team. You improve as a coach but also have to learn to manage your time differently. There’s less preparation time for games because there is always so much happening.”
As United prepare to face Arsenal, Amorim’s focus remains firmly on the game ahead. The Red Devils are currently ninth in the Premier League table but are unbeaten in their last seven matches across all competitions.
Rashford labours in vain as Amorim’s men struggle in manager’s first game
Previously, TheRadar reported that Ruben Amorim’s much-anticipated tenure as Manchester United manager began with frustration as his side settled for a 1-1 draw against newly-promoted Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
Marcus Rashford opened the scoring brilliantly within the first 90 seconds, but despite a good performance, Amorim’s men failed to score another goal, leaving them languishing in 12th place in the Premier League table.
