- Piers Morgan mocked Arsenal’s title ambitions, claiming they have "two hopes: none and Bob" without a proper goal-scorer
- Newcastle sealed a 4-0 aggregate win over Arsenal, ending the Gunners’ Carabao Cup journey
- Arteta admitted he was “disappointed” that Arsenal failed to sign a striker in the January transfer window
Arsenal’s season is at risk of going trophyless, and outspoken celebrity fan Piers Morgan has not held back in his criticism of manager Mikel Arteta.
Following the Gunners’ Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Newcastle United, Morgan has verbally attacked Arteta’s administrative decisions, particularly his failure to sign a striker in the January transfer window.
The North London club suffered a 2-0 defeat in the second leg at St James’ Park, with goals from Jacob Murphy and Anthony Gordon sealing a 4-0 aggregate loss. The result ended Arsenal’s hopes in another domestic competition, having already crashed out of the FA Cup against Manchester United earlier in the month.
With their Carabao Cup dreams shattered, Arsenal is now left focusing solely on the Premier League and Champions League for potential silverware.
Morgan, never shy about voicing his opinions, took to social media to express his frustration, blaming Arteta for the club’s struggles.
He stated that Arsenal’s failure to bring in a top-class striker in January was a major oversight, one that could cost them trophies this season,
"Arteta deserves this. He needs to stop making ridiculous excuses and accept responsibility for not buying a proper striker, a decision that means we once again won’t win a trophy this season," Morgan wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
In a separate post, he mocked the club’s title ambitions, writing, "… without a top striker. Two hopes: none and Bob."
Arsenal had been linked with Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins during the transfer window, but a move failed to materialise.
Arteta admitted afterwards that he was "disappointed" not to reinforce his attacking options. With Gabriel Jesus injured and Bukayo Saka also sidelined, the Gunners now rely on Kai Havertz as their primary option up front, a situation many fans and pundits see as inadequate for a serious title challenge.
Currently second in the Premier League, Arsenal trails leaders Liverpool by six points. They also await their Champions League last-16 clash in March, where they will face one of Juventus, PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord, or AC Milan.
Despite these opportunities, Morgan remains pessimistic about Arsenal’s chances without a reliable goal-scorer.
Rivals should be scared as Saka unveils major agenda for Arsenal
Previously, TheRadar reported that Arsenal’s effort toward claiming silverware saw a major boost as they secured a Carabao Cup semi-final spot with a hard-fought victory over Crystal Palace.
Bukayo Saka came off the bench to provide a pivotal assist and later declared that the Gunners are “ready to compete for every trophy” this season.
