Taiwo Awoniyi has responded to growing rumours linking him with a move away from Nottingham Forest during the winter transfer window, amidst his frustration over limited playing time.

The Nigerian striker, who joined Forest from Union Berlin with the expectation of becoming a regular starter, has found himself on the sidelines due to persistent injury issues and a lack of form.

Awoniyi, who was initially brought in to bolster the Forest attack, has struggled for consistency this season, scoring just once in 19 appearances across all competitions

This underwhelming return has led to increased speculation about his future at the club, with reports suggesting that West Ham United are among the clubs interested in securing his services.

However, in an exclusive interview with Sportsboom, Awoniyi addressed the rumours, making it clear that his focus remains firmly on Nottingham Forest.

Laughing off the transfer speculation, he reaffirmed his commitment to the club and insisted that he is not considering a move at this time.

"Transfers are part of football, and there will always be speculation," Awoniyi said.

"But my focus is entirely on Nottingham Forest. This is a team with a lot of potential, and I want to be here to help achieve something special. I'm not thinking about leaving; I'm thinking about how I can contribute more to the success of this club."

Despite his reduced role in recent weeks, Awoniyi expressed optimism about his future at Forest, emphasising his determination to turn things around.

He spoke highly of the support he has received from the coaching staff, who have continued to show confidence in his abilities.

"I've spoken with the coaches, and they've been very supportive," Awoniyi explained.

"They see me as an important part of the squad, even if I'm not starting regularly. They've emphasised the importance of staying ready and being a team player. It's reassuring to know that they value what I bring to the table, and it pushes me to keep giving my best."

Awoniyi's comments signal a strong commitment to Nottingham Forest, despite the challenges he has faced so far this season.

With his eyes set on improving his form and contributing more to the team's success, the striker is determined to fight for his place and make a positive impact in the second half of the season.

“I’m just happy I got one today,” Nigeria’s Aina elated after helping Forest beat Brentford

The win marked Forest’s third consecutive victory, pushing them momentarily to fourth place in the Premier League table, just two points below Arsenal.
