- Guardiola revealed that his unbeaten managerial record stems from simply winning games
- The Spaniard’s trophy-laden career includes six Premier League titles and a historic treble, making him one of the greatest managers in England football
- Despite Manchester City’s struggles this season, Guardiola remains committed to the club and ruled out leaving anytime soon
Spanish coach Pep Guardiola has built a managerial career that many dream of but few achieve; winning trophies, earning respect, and, remarkably, never facing the sack.
From his historic tenure at Barcelona to his dominant spells at Bayern Munich and Manchester City, the Spaniard has left an indelible mark wherever he has coached.
Despite football’s high-pressure environment, where managerial changes happen frequently, Guardiola has managed to maintain job security.
Speaking in a press conference, he humorously revealed the reason behind his success,
“I will tell you a secret, we win games, if we don't win games, I would be sacked,” Guardiola said when asked about his unbeaten managerial record.
His witty response drew laughter, but it also explained a harsh reality in modern football, results determine longevity. Guardiola acknowledged the pressures managers face today, especially with the massive financial investments that clubs make.
“In this country, when I was younger, there was always a tradition to keep managers, but now, with so much pressure and money involved, changes are often inevitable. Sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't,” he reflected.
Guardiola’s track record has largely shielded him from such uncertainties. At Barcelona, he delivered two Champions League titles and transformed the club into a global powerhouse. At Bayern Munich, he sustained dominance in Germany, and his reign at Manchester City has been nothing short of extraordinary, including six Premier League titles and a historic treble.
Yet, even Guardiola admitted that his future depends on his performance. With Manchester City struggling this season, already suffering six league defeats, questions about his job security surfaced. However, the club’s hierarchy has maintained faith in their manager, showing no signs of a shake-up.
Speaking ahead of Manchester City’s match against rivals Manchester United, a game they ultimately lost 2-1, Guardiola addressed speculation about his departure.
“I would regret leaving now, if the board is not happy with me, they can do it. But leaving now in this position? No chance,” he said firmly.
Guardiola emphasised his commitment to the club and suggested he would only leave when he feels the time is right.
For now, Guardiola remains focused on turning Manchester City’s season around. As long as he continues to win, his position seems untouchable, a status built on years of consistency, success, and, in his own words, winning games.
“We had good moments, but...,” Guardiola laments Man City’s chances against Aston Villa
Previously, TheRadar reported that Premier League champions Manchester City’s alarming dip in form continued as they slumped to a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa at Villa Park, leaving Pep Guardiola searching for answers.
Despite another disappointing result, Guardiola defended his team’s performance, emphasising glimpses of quality but admitting their struggles to convert opportunities proved costly.
