Osun Governor backs South West Games 2025, calls it a game-changer

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has thrown his full support behind the South West Games 2025, describing it as a transformative initiative that could create new opportunities for youth empowerment and socio-economic growth in the region. 

His endorsement adds more weight to the upcoming multi-sport event, which could redefine the existing sporting structure of South West Nigeria.

The Governor made his commitment known when he hosted the president of the South West Games 2025, Lanre Alfred, and other key members of the organising committee, including Victor Ganzallo, Kayode Alfred, and Dehinde Fajana, at the State House in Osogbo. 

During the meeting, Governor Adeleke and his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, were presented with customised jerseys to mark their association with the competition.

Adeleke, known for his passion for youth development, lauded the South West Games as a groundbreaking project that could significantly impact young people’s lives. 

He expressed enthusiasm about the potential of the tournament to foster discipline, self-actualisation, and career progression for aspiring athletes,

“The South West Games 2025 is a revolutionary initiative that will shape the future of sports and youth development in our region, sports possess an extraordinary power to elevate young individuals, providing them with a pathway to discipline and greatness. I am immensely proud to endorse this noble cause and will personally attend to witness this historic event unfold,” the Governor stated.

The South West Games 2025 is expected to attract 1,200 athletes and 120 officials, making it one of the most ambitious sports events in recent years. 

A major highlight of the tournament will be the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Southwest Alliance Games, a dedicated competition designed to nurture young athletes under the age of 18. This sub-tournament will provide a strong foundation for emerging talents, ensuring they receive the right exposure and mentorship needed to excel on the global stage.

Governor Adeleke stressed the importance of investing in young athletes, stating that their development was integral to Nigeria’s sporting future, 

“Investing in young athletes is investing in the future of Nigeria. With the right platform and mentorship, these young stars will break records and bring pride to our nation,” he concluded.

The South West Games 2025 is set to kick off on March 25 in Lagos, promising a thrilling showcase of talent, competition, and economic revitalisation.

Ozekhome calls for fresh elections to resolve Osun LG crisis

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that Professor Mike Ozekhome called for fresh elections in Osun State to resolve the ongoing local government crisis and avoid further violence. 

Ozekhome urged all political parties to prepare for fair elections, stressing the importance of respecting court decisions and playing clean politics.
