Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi displayed his class with an impressive brace as Fulham surged to a 3-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at Craven Cottage, climbing to sixth in the Premier League table.

The Super Eagles star was important in exploiting Brighton’s defensive lapses, ensuring Marco Silva’s men edged closer to the league’s top five in the Premier League race.

Brighton, revered for their deadly attacking energy, stumbled early when Alex Iwobi capitalised on a brutal defensive error in the fourth minute. Igor’s misplaced pass to goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen left the Seagulls scrambling, and a poor clearance fell to the feet of Iwobi, who slotted into an empty net. The early goal sent the Fulham fans into jubilation and set the tone of the game.

Despite the rocky start, Brighton unsurprisingly pushed back with their attacking intensity. Kaoru Mitoma’s dangerous cross nearly found the net, but Simon Adingra’s effort was thwarted by Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno. Moments before halftime, Mats Wieffer saw his brilliant strike ricochet off Antonee Robinson and Sander Berge, denying the visitors an equaliser.

Ten minutes into the second half, Brighton finally found their breakthrough. Carlos Baleba unleashed a smart but powerful shot from outside the box after a knockdown by Joao Pedro, levelling the scores. However, Fulham were not ready to give up as they capitalised on another Brighton misstep.

Another decisive moment came in the 79th minute for Fulham when Andreas Pereira’s corner caused chaos in the Brighton box. Matt O’Riley, in an attempt to clear the ball, inadvertently guided it into his own net, handing Fulham a crucial lead.

Brighton’s misfortune got worse in the closing stages when Iwobi delivered a moment of magic. Spinning deftly in the box, he curled a sublime effort past Verbruggen, sealing his brace and Fulham’s victory.

After the match, Marco Silva praised his team’s character, stating,

“They are a really tough team to play against, top-quality individuals, not losing many games. The first half was difficult for us, but we reacted well in the second half. Credit to Brighton, but I think we deserved the win.”

With the victory, Fulham are now just one point behind fifth-placed Brighton thanks to Iwobi’s match-winning display.
