- Super Eagles star Ndidi has gifted Nigeria's Flying Eagles ₦5 million after their recent 2-1 win over Côte d'Ivoire in the WAFU B U-20 Championship
- The Flying Eagles are now set to face Niger Republic in the semi-finals, with a potential spot in the 2025 U-20 AFCON up for grabs
- The Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, also contributed ₦2 million to celebrate the team's victory
Despite Nottingham Forest’s dominant 3-1 win over Leicester City, where Super Eagles stars Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi outperformed their Nigerian teammate Wilfred Ndidi, the latter hasn’t let the defeat spoil his generous spirit.
Just after the showdown, Ndidi dug deep to reward the Nigerian U-20 side, the Flying Eagles, with a substantial ₦5 million (about $3,000) following their hard-fought 2-1 victory over Côte d'Ivoire in the ongoing WAFU B U-20 Championship.
On the club side, it was a mixed night for the Super Eagles trio, but certainly, a more painful night for Ndidi as his team lost the thriller. Ola Aina stood tall in the defence for Nottingham Forest, tirelessly thwarting Leicester’s attempts to level the score.
Ndidi, meanwhile, was assigned to the heart of the Foxes’ defence but was taken off in the 74th minute as Leicester struggled for a comeback. Awoniyi also saw limited action with a ten-minute cameo.
However, the night truly belonged to Forest striker Chris Wood, who continued his red-hot form by netting a brace that carried Nottingham to fifth place in the Premier League standings. Wood’s goal tally this season now sits at seven, just three shy of top scorer Erling Haaland, as he climbs up Forest's all-time Premier League goal rankings.
After the intense club battle, Ndidi’s focus shifted to the national stage, where his commitment to Nigerian football shone through. Following the Flying Eagles' recent triumph over Côte d'Ivoire, Ndidi made his generosity known by providing a morale boost for the Nigerian U-20 side with his ₦5 million reward.
According to Flying Eagles’ media officer Sharif Abdallah, the reward was a personal gesture by Ndidi, recognising the team’s hard work and dedication in their journey to the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, should they win their next match against Niger Republic on Sunday, October 27 by 7 pm.
The Deputy Senate President of Nigeria, Jibrin Barau, also contributed ₦2 million to celebrate their victory over Côte d'Ivoire, ensuring that the players know their efforts are valued back home.
A win over the Niger Republic would secure Nigeria a spot in the finals of the WAFU B Championship and a place in the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in 2025.
