- Former Chelsea player, John Obi Mikel, explains why he believes Osimhen would be an ideal fit for Chelsea
- Chelsea, despite signing numerous players this summer, remains eager to secure Osimhen’s services
- Didier Drogba, one of Osimhen’s idols, has also encouraged the striker to consider the Chelsea move
As the summer transfer window draws to a close, speculation surrounding Victor Osimhen's future has continued to intensify.
The Napoli striker, who has requested to leave the club, is heavily linked with a potential transfer to Chelsea. The deal could involve Romelu Lukaku moving in the opposite direction. Chelsea has been active in the transfer market, securing players like Pedro Neto, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Marc Guiu, and Filip Jorgensen, but the club appears determined to add Osimhen to their lineup. In a concerted effort to bring the Nigerian star to Stamford Bridge, former Chelsea legends Didier Drogba and John Obi Mikel have personally reached out to Osimhen.
Mikel explains why Osimhen would be ideal for Chelsea
In a recent video, Mikel elaborated on why he believes Osimhen would be a perfect fit for Chelsea.
“We don’t really need somebody who’s going to come in and be feeding and creating chances. We want somebody who can finish, score goals, the tap-ins, someone like Erling Haaland. That’s something Victor Osimhen will bring to Chelsea,” Mikel explained.
Mikel also revealed that he and Drogba are actively communicating with Osimhen, urging him to prioritize Chelsea in his career decisions.
“I hope that Chelsea fans will finally see him come to the club. I’ll make sure I send him those text messages and call him, making sure Chelsea is his top priority! He seems like he loves the club. He seems like he wants to come to Chelsea,” Mikel further stated.
One of Osimhen’s idols, Didier Drogba, is also crucially involved in the effort, sharing his own experiences and highlighting the club's importance.
Mikel added, “Didier is also speaking to him and sharing his own ideas, what the club means to us. We all want to see Victor come to the club. If it happens, it happens. It’s a huge transfer fee, but if we can match it and get him to the club, that would be absolutely fantastic.”
Osimhen's agent had previously dismissed speculation about a loan move to Chelsea, but the possibility of a summer exit from Napoli still looms. With Napoli's Serie A season set to begin on Sunday against Verona, the striker is eager to resolve his future swiftly.
