  • Kylian Mbappé is suing PSG over €55 million in unpaid wages
  • PSG allegedly withheld the amount, claiming a verbal agreement with the striker

Kylian Mbappé’s long-standing battle with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is set to escalate as the French star prepares to take legal action over unpaid wages. Despite attempts at mediation, Mbappé's camp has made it clear they won't back down from the staggering €55 million ($60.6 million) owed by PSG.

According to his mother, Fayza Lamari, the 25-year-old striker is ready to sue the club if they fail to meet his demands, casting a dark shadow over his former team's future.

The ongoing conflict traces back to Mbappé’s time at PSG, where the Ligue 1 champions allegedly withheld a significant signing bonus, two months salary, and what has been dubbed an “ethical bonus.” Though PSG maintains they verbally agreed with Mbappé to waive these payments, the striker’s camp sees things differently.

As Mbappé’s mother put it,

“If we have no other choice, of course (we would sue).”

She emphasized that they signed a contract two years ago, and both sides should respect it.

In an attempt to resolve the dispute, the French LFP complaints committee recommended mediation, a proposal that PSG welcomed. However, Mbappé outright rejected this option, demonstrating his determination to pursue legal recourse.

PSG remains adamant that their agreement with Mbappé was reached in good faith, with club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi even suggesting that the money was withheld because they were expecting a potential transfer fee.

To complicate matters further, Mbappé is reportedly also demanding his outstanding bonuses completely paid coupled with the two months' salary from last season.

This situation has now reached a breaking point, with PSG’s refusal to pay what is owed potentially resulting in heavy consequences.

According to reports, if the court sides with Mbappé, PSG could face severe fines for violating French labour laws and even be banned from signing new players during upcoming transfer windows.

Mbappé’s camp initially approached PSG with the wage issue in June, hoping to resolve it without legal action. Lamari compared the ongoing saga to a "break up," stating,

“Sometimes, when you separate, you have to decide who gets the TV, who gets the car. That’s where we are.”

She expressed hope that this dispute wouldn’t tarnish the relationship between her son and PSG.

However, with the case now in court, Mbappé’s stance has hardened. PSG may soon find themselves paying more than just the €55 million in question.
