Manchester United’s exciting young winger Amad Diallo has committed his future to Old Trafford by signing a new five-and-a-half-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 2030.
This extension replaces his previous deal, which was set to expire at the end of the season, despite the club holding a 12-month extension option.
The Ivory Coast international has been in fine form this season, scoring six goals in 27 appearances.
Speaking after the contract announcement, Diallo expressed his pride and ambition,
“I am really proud to have signed this new contract, I have had some incredible moments with this club already, but there is so much more to come. I have huge ambitions in the game, and I want to achieve history at Manchester United.”
Despite challenges during the current campaign, Diallo remains optimistic about the team’s direction,
“It has been a difficult season for everyone, but I fully believe that we are on the right path. The future is going to be really special,” he added.
Manchester United’s technical director, Jason Wilcox, hailed the winger’s progress and potential,
“Everyone is delighted with Amad's development, his quality on the ball, versatility, and determination make him a key part of the future of Manchester United. The best years of his career are ahead of him, and we look forward to helping Amad reach his immense potential.”
Diallo joined Manchester United in 2021 from Atalanta but struggled for game time in his initial years. Loan spells, including a brief stint at Rangers, helped him find his rhythm.
However, it was his transformative 2022-23 season with Sunderland in the Championship that proved his potential, as he scored 14 goals in 42 appearances.
Returning to United in the 2023-24 season under Erik ten Hag, Diallo faced a significant setback with a knee injury in pre-season that sidelined him for five months.
Nevertheless, he made an emphatic comeback when he scored an unforgettable 120th-minute winner in the FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool.
This season, Diallo has further established his place in the first team, with standout performances including a stoppage-time winner against Manchester City at the Etihad and a crucial equaliser in United’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Anfield.
