- Nigerian Afrobeats star Fireboy DML has lashed out at Manchester United's underwhelming squad amid the club’s worst Premier League run in over two decades.
- United’s recent 4-1 thrashing by Newcastle has left them in 14th place, sparking outrage among fans, including celebrity supporters like Fireboy.
- Despite the general criticism, Fireboy defended Bruno Fernandes passionately, calling him the only consistent player Manchester United have signed in the last five years.
While Manchester United fans continue to go through one of the club’s worst seasons in over two decades, Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Fireboy DML has voiced his disappointment with the team.
Following United’s humiliating 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United, a loss that leaves Ruben Amorim’s side languishing in 14th place, just three points above the relegation zone, Fireboy didn’t hold back in his brutally honest assessment of the club’s performance this season.
Speaking on the 90s Baby Show, the “Peru” hitmaker admitted he was unsurprised by the Red Devils’ collapse, stating that the writing had been on the wall for a while,
“I feel like we are done over, and that’s okay. It happens; we’ll be fine,” he remarked, adding that the team would probably be in the same position next season.
He predicted that it would take two years for Amorim to rebuild the squad properly, admitting,
“I’m fine with just watching.”
When asked which player he would like to see leave first during the anticipated summer overhaul, Fireboy hesitated to single anyone out, though he did mention Victor Lindelöf as a possible departure.
However, he stressed that “half the team needs to go,” insisting that his statement wasn’t out of hate but out of sheer frustration,
“Just get out. It’s all love,” he said.
The 29-year-old artist came to the defence of Bruno Fernandes, stating that the Portuguese midfielder as the club’s only consistent performer in recent years,
“A few people are saying Bruno out. No way. Why? That is the only player that we’ve bought in the past five years that has remained valid. He needs to stay and win a trophy,” Fireboy said.
Fireboy also addressed pundit Jamie Carragher’s controversial take on the African Cup of Nations. He dismissed Carragher’s opinion entirely, asserting that only Africans should have a say in what AFCON means to them,
“Carragher loves to talk; that’s how he makes his money, let’s just build our structure and be better. We’ll see what people will say.”
