  • Iwobi revealed that he has multiple unreleased songs awaiting release on his team’s recommendation
  • In March 2024, Iwobi posted a teaser of his rap skills under the stage name “17”
  • The Super Eagles star is confident Nigeria will win their AFCON qualifier against Libya

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has been hiding a creative secret that dates back to his teenage years.

Popular for his skills on the pitch, the 28-year-old Fulham star has also been crafting music since he was 14, a talent he only recently made public. Speaking to the press in Uyo, Iwobi shared insights into how he’s balanced both passions over the years.

Iwobi first gave fans a glimpse of his musical talent in March 2024, when he dropped a snippet of an unreleased rap track on social media under the stage name “17.” A few months later, in June, Iwobi released a second track titled “Don’t Shoot.”

Talking about his journey, Iwobi said,

“I’ve been doing music since I was a teenager, but it’s only now that people are discovering it because I’ve just started sharing it.”

He added that he has a lot of unreleased music, but is waiting for the right moment to drop it. “Whenever my team and I feel it’s the right time to release the music, we’ll do it. They know best. But until then, I have plenty of unreleased songs.”

As much as Iwobi’s musical talent has surprised fans, his focus on football remains sharp. Nigeria is set to face Libya in an AFCON 2025 qualifier, and the Super Eagles are determined to extend their lead at the top of Group D.

Iwobi, brimming with confidence, spoke to Brila Media about the team’s readiness,

“Nigerians should expect that we are going to give our 100 per cent, everyone is doing well for their clubs, so if we bring that same form from our clubs to the national team, we should get the result that we want.”

The Super Eagles have never lost to Libya, and with their current standing at the top of their group, Iwobi’s optimism is much more valid.

Their last encounter in 2018 ended in a 3-2 victory for Nigeria, and Friday’s match in Uyo will be another chance to show their dominance. With home advantage on their side, the Super Eagles are in a good position to take all three points before heading to Libya for the return leg on October 15.

Popular Chelsea defender reportedly eyeing Super Eagles switch

Previously, TheRadar reported that as whispers grow louder about Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo potentially switching his international allegiance from England to Nigeria, interim Super Eagles coach Austin Eguavoen has spoken out.

The 27-year-old defender, born in England to Nigerian parents, has represented England at youth levels but is yet to break into Gareth Southgate’s senior squad. With his omission from the Euros squad, Adarabioyo may be reconsidering his options, making the switch to Nigeria seem increasingly likely.
