Nigerian star shines in Benfica gameAlex Iwobi against Benfica
  • A stellar performance by the Super Eagles star
  • Match key highlight: Benfica vs Fulham
  • Fans are optimistic Iwobi will be key for the upcoming campaign

As the football world eagerly anticipates the start of a new season, Fulham midfielder, Alex Iwobi, dazzled fans in a brilliant display of skill. The experienced Nigerian international delivered absolutely well and won the Player of the Match award, raising high expectations for his upcoming campaign with Fulham in a few weeks.

Stellar performance from Iwobi

In an impressive match against Benfica, the Nigerian international confidently showcased his skills, making forward runs as expected and consequently earned the Player of the Match award. His display was nothing short of spectacular. Iwobi's impact was clear in the attacking part of the game, where his skill and accuracy stood out. He played a key role in creating and finishing chances, boosting Fulham’s attacking strength. His decisive goal in the 20th minute was simply enough for the cottagers to secure their win over Benfica.

Match key highlight: Macro Silva’s side dominates the first half

The match was a test of Fulham’s readiness for the new season, and Iwobi’s performance was a major highlight. Despite the dominance of Silva’s Fulham in the first half, they could barely keep up the energy after the break as Benfica kept up with attacking runs and shots until the game ended.

Early in the game, Rodrigo Muniz showed his skill with a smooth turn in his half, getting past the Benfica defence in the first five minutes. He tried to pass to Iwobi, but the ball was deflected for a corner.

Tom Cairney’s corner kick hit the post, keeping the score 0-0. Iwobi then had a long shot that went over the bar. Fulham kept attacking, and from another corner, Muniz headed Cairney’s cross straight to Benfica’s goalkeeper, Anatoliy Trubin.

The breakthrough came two minutes later with a quick counter-attack. Adama Traoré’s strong run broke through Benfica’s defence, creating a four-on-two situation. Traoré passed to Iwobi, who then combined with Antonee Robinson before scoring at the near post.

Optimistic fans are impressed with the Nigerian star

The reaction from Fulham fans and football enthusiasts has been positive following Iwobi’s stellar performance. His performance against Benfica has set a high standard for the season ahead, and supporters are eager to see if he can maintain this form once the competitive matches begin.

His standout performance and the Player of the Match award is an indication of his readiness to make a significant impact for Fulham after being in the club for barely a year.

Some of the fan's reactions are below:

“I’m telling you, Nigerian players are going to have crazy seasons this year. Chukwueze in pre-season, Iwobi now, Ejuke and Iheanacho making a good move, Boniface fit, Onyedika developing well, Osimhen could move to PSG, Lookman finishing the season so well… Going to be crazy,” @sasnakapack mentioned.

“ESR and Iwobi in their midfield will be dangerous. If they get McTominay...🥵🥵🥵,” @iMaGiNaToR_X said.

“My star Boy,” @donah_shyne commented.

NPFL Daily Spotlight: Paul Offor and Kano Pillars shake hands on a mutual exit.

Previously, TheRadar reported that what started as speculation, when it was alleged that the management of Kano Pillars FC had advised UEFA-licensed coach Paul Offor to use the exit door, has eventually come to pass.

After a period of reflection and negotiation by both parties, Offor's contract has now been mutually terminated just 19 days following his appointment.
