- Sports journalist "Pooja" sparks controversy with a tweet about Nigeria's economic situation
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have started assembling in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to gear up for their crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
On Monday morning, September 2, seven players reported to the team’s camp.
Leading the early arrivals was captain William Troost-Ekong, who currently plays in Saudi Arabia. He was joined by Nottingham Forest's Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina, West Brom's Semi Ajayi, Italy-based Ademola Lookman, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, and Olisa Ndah from Orlando Pirates.
Following a disappointing start to their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, where they are yet to secure a win in four games, the Super Eagles are eager to make a strong statement in the AFCON qualifiers.
Controversial Nigerian sports journalist, whom many call Naija Fabrizio because of his transfer tweets but popularly known by his X handle name, Pooja, has thrown netizens into confusion as he laments over the economic downturn in the country and how ‘flesh’ has now become expensive to patronize, from the comment section of the tweet many Nigerians understand it to mean women.
A lot of Nigerians have taken time to enquire from the journalist to shed more light on his expression usage, while many seized the opportunity to tackle the ‘wrong’ choice of selection in the last Nigerian election.
