- This comment, made in a video and shared on his official X handle, has caused a lot of buzz on social media
Nigerian-born UFC fighter Israel Adesanya, famously known as the Last Stylebender, recently stirred the pot with his candid remarks about women in Lagos.
In a video shared on his official X handle on Monday, Adesanya asserted that most women in Lagos live extravagant lifestyles funded by activities that label them as “runs girls,” a local term for women involved in transactional relationships.
Adesanya, who has gained global recognition for his success in mixed martial arts, did not mince words in his critique. He pointed out that many Lagos women are obsessed with flaunting wealth and living a high-end lifestyle, which he suggests is largely financed through questionable means.
The former UFC middleweight champion advised them to adopt a more humble and approachable demeanour rather than being “proud.”
Speaking in Yoruba, Adesanya said, “Lagos women like to feel themselves and are proud. Most of you are runs girls. I know the meaning of runs girls now. Kobo kobo, ashewo. You want to show off. Keep posing and showing off. Nonsense. Just be nice, be friendly, say hi.”
Adesanya’s comments came just days after his return to Lagos, where he was warmly received despite suffering a fourth-round submission loss to South Africa’s Dricus Du Plessis in their UFC 305 middleweight title fight held in Perth, Australia.
The remarks from the UFC star have triggered widespread reactions on social media, with various opinions emerging on the accuracy and fairness of his statements.
