Nigerian athletes delivered an impressive showing at the ATX Sprint Classic held in Texas, United States, as Favour Ofili and Rosemary Chukwuma secured dominant victories in their respective 100m heats, further affirming Nigeria’s growing presence on the global sprinting stage.

Ofili, who recently made headlines for her record-breaking run over 150m at the Adidas Atlanta City Games, produced a remarkable performance, crossing the finish line in 10.87 seconds (+1.9m/s) to win her heat. The time marks a new personal best for the 22-year-old, surpassing her previous best of 10.94s. American sprinter Kayla White finished in second place with a time of 11.07s.

In a separate heat, Rosemary Chukwuma also impressed, clocking 10.93 seconds (+3.9m/s) to claim victory ahead of Olympic medallist Gabby Thomas of the United States. The performance adds to what has been a consistent season for Chukwuma, who recently secured qualification for the World Athletics Championships.

Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian sprinter Success Umukoro finished third in her heat with a time of 11.43 seconds (+2.3m/s), gaining valuable experience as she continues her development on the international circuit.

The strong performances from Ofili, Chukwuma, and Umukoro come at a crucial time, with the 2025 World Athletics Championships on the horizon. Their results further highlight Nigeria's growing depth in women's sprinting, as the nation continues to produce athletes capable of competing at the highest level.

All eyes will now turn to the upcoming Diamond League events and national trials, where Nigeria's sprinters will look to fine-tune their preparations for the global stage.
