  • Ex-Nigerian international Victor Moses scored his first Championship goal in nearly 14 years
  • Moses’ Luton Town was defeated 3-1 by Plymouth Argyle in the clash
  • Cissoko’s late goal sealed a brace, leaving Luton with no chance of a comeback

Victor Moses rolled back the years on Friday night, September 27, scoring his first goal in the English Championship with Luton Town since January 2010.

Moses was part of the squad that won the Europa League in 2012/13 with Chelsea, but spent much of his nine years as a Chelsea player out on loan, playing for European giants Liverpool and Inter Milan, as well as domestically for West Ham, Stoke and in Turkey with Fenerbahce.

Luton Town could not avoid a 3-1 defeat to Plymouth Argyle at Home Park. The 33-year-old’s strike, which came just 12 minutes after he was subbed on, showed signs of a comeback, but Plymouth were already in command, leaving Moses’ effort as a mere consolation.

The game had begun with much pressure, as Rami Al Hajj fired a venomous shot past Luton’s goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski to give Plymouth an early lead. Luton, searching for a way back into the game, brought on Moses in the 59th minute to replace Mads Andersen, who had sustained an injury. Moses wasted no time, netting for the Hatters to reduce the deficit, but the home side was quick to restore their two-goal lead.

Moses’ goal came nearly 14 years after his last strike in the Championship, which he scored for Crystal Palace in a 1-0 victory over Plymouth in January 2010. His return to the division this season, after joining Luton as a free agent following his departure from Spartak Moscow, marked a new chapter in his likely ending career.

Luton’s hopes for a comeback were completely dashed when Cissoko sealed the win for Plymouth with a low effort in added time, ensuring the Hatters left Home Park empty-handed.

As the former Chelsea star who had also played for Moses in the Premier League with Liverpool and Wigan looks to sharpen his form, Luton will shift their focus from this defeat to their next fixture on Tuesday, where they’ll face Oxford United at Kenilworth Road in their battle for promotion to the English Premier League.

“Victor Moses gives us more strength,” Luton manager Edwards justifies Nigerian’s signing

Previously, TheRadar reported that Luton Town has made a bold move in the transfer market, signing former Nigeria international Victor Moses as a free agent.

After parting ways with Russian side Spartak Moscow earlier this summer, the experienced winger has found a new home at Kenilworth Road. His signing has drawn praise from Luton manager Rob Edwards, who believes Moses’ versatility will be key as the club seeks to improve its Championship standing.
