- Super Eagles Kelechi Iheanacho has struggled to find his form since his summer transfer to Sevilla
- Former teammate Nolito has urged Sevilla fans to support Iheanacho as he adjusts to La Liga
- Sevilla’s recent struggles in La Liga have led to rising expectations and pressure on Iheanacho to perform
Super Eagles star Kelechi Iheanacho’s journey at Sevilla may be off to a rocky start, but former teammate and ex-Manchester City forward Nolito remains confident that the Nigerian striker will soon adjust to La Liga.
Iheanacho, who joined Sevilla during the summer transfer window, has struggled to make an immediate impact. Yet Nolito, who has played for both Sevilla and Manchester City, sees this as just a temporary phase in what could become a fruitful Spanish adventure for the 28-year-old striker.
The Nigerian international arrived at Sevilla with high expectations following successful spells at Leicester City and Manchester City in the Premier League. Despite his English championship reputation, Iheanacho has found it challenging to adapt to the demands of La Liga. Limited game time and a lack of consistency have made his transition anything but smooth, and Sevilla fans will in no time start voicing their concerns about the Nigerian’s form as their team struggles in the league.
Nolito, however, insists that patience is the key to unlocking Iheanacho’s potential. In a recent interview with Orgullobiri, he encouraged fans to give the forward time to adjust, expressing faith in his former teammate’s abilities,
“He’s a good guy, and I hope he brings us some joy this year. He lacks a bit of rhythm, but I am confident that he will gradually improve. He’s a good footballer,” Nolito said.
Iheanacho’s only goals for Sevilla so far came in a Copa del Rey match against fifth-division side Las Rozas, where he managed to find the back of the net. Despite this glimmer of success, his impact on the team remains limited; his recent 11-minute appearance against Real Sociedad ended without any significant contribution.
With Nolito’s words of encouragement, Sevilla fans may find reason to remain hopeful about Iheanacho’s future at the club. If he manages to regain form, his contributions could bring Sevilla much-needed relief as they aim to rise the league standings.
Iheanacho explains the meaning behind his ‘senior man’ nickname
Previously, TheRadar reported that after securing a two-year contract with Sevilla FC with an option of a third year, Kelechi Iheanacho disclosed the story behind his nickname in his first official interview with the club.
Sevilla FC had earlier announced the signing of the Nigerian striker from Leceister City FC. The former Leicester City forward, whose contract expired at the end of last season, put pen to paper on a deal with the Andalusian club.
