Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur edged out Manchester United in a heart-stopping 4-3 victory, displaying in grand style their all-out attack approach.

Ange Postecoglou’s side had their fans on the edge of their seats as moments of brilliance were nearly overshadowed by defensive blunders. Despite the nerve-wracking finish, Postecoglou stood firm in defending his attacking style of play, jesting in a post-match interview after the game, “Are you not entertained?”

The match began with Spurs firmly in control, thanks to a stellar performance from £65 million signing Dominic Solanke. The former Bournemouth striker scored twice, coupled with a Dejan Kulusevski strike, as Tottenham surged to what seemed an unassailable lead. Solanke’s clinical finishing justified his hefty price tag and proved again his importance to Postecoglou’s attacking setup.

Unsurprisingly, Spurs slipped along the line as goalkeeper Fraser Forster endured a nightmare spell, committing two critical errors that Manchester United all the confidence they needed. In the 63rd minute, Forster’s misguided pass found Bruno Fernandes, who fumbled a clearance, ricocheting the ball off Amad Diallo and into his own net.

The London club seemed on course to repeat their 4-3 collapse against Chelsea earlier in the season. Yet, Spurs rallied, showing determination to seal the victory and keep alive Postecoglou’s hopes of delivering silverware in his second season, a feat he has achieved at every club he’s managed.

Postecoglou faced questions about his high-risk tactics but remained defiant,

“I really liked how we played tonight; obviously those moments tainted it a bit, but the mentality of the boys... I love it,” he told the press in a post-match interview.

With 36 goals in just 16 league games, Tottenham’s style of play has made them one of the Premier League’s most exciting teams, even if it has come with defensive vulnerabilities.

The Australian manager also dismissed calls for a more pragmatic style, emphasising his commitment to entertaining football,

“We’re not looking to grind out 1-0 victories; our objective is to keep the fans on the edge of their seats, perfection in humans is an illusion; we all make errors, including myself,” he declared.

As Spurs gear up for a challenging Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool, with the second leg at Anfield, Postecoglou’s questionable attacking style faces a major test.
