Some areas in Nigeria are yet to witness light despite the calling of NLC strike
  • Millions of Nigerians were thrown into darkness due to the nationwide strike
  • However, some are yet to experience restoration of power, especially those in Band E zones, despite the suspension of the strike
  • Also, the NLC president slammed transmission companies for allegedly attacking labour members enforcing the strike action

Following the suspension of industrial action by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), which resulted in a total blackout across the country, Nigerians have been rejoicing at the restoration of light.

However, some remain in darkness because of their tariff plan. The transmission company said it had started restoring power after the strike suspension but Band E users are yet to feel the impact.

The Transmission Company announced the restoration of the power supply following the suspension of the industrial action on Tuesday, June 4.

Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company also said it had started restoring power to some of its users. Abuja users also confirmed that power was restored Tuesday night.

The head of Corporate Communications at the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, Emeka Ezeh, said on Wednesday that the disco started receiving loads from the National grid on Tuesday evening.

NLC president slams TCN for attacking staff manning their facilities

Recall that millions of Nigerians were thrown into darkness after the national grid was shut down as a result of the nationwide strike.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said on Monday that the total shutdown of the national grid was caused by the labour unions.

However, this did not sit well with NLC president, Joe Ajaero, who slammed the Transmission Company of Nigeria for allegedly having staff manning their facilities attacked by the NLC's monitoring and compliance team.

NLC will not tolerate workers’ intimidation

The NLC made it known in a statement on Monday, June 3, that it would not tolerate any government agency or organisation intimidating its workers over their legitimate decision to withdraw services through an indefinite nationwide strike.

The TCN should see that it is not the only company affected by the striking workers. Other organisations are also experiencing service disruptions as a result of the nationwide strike.

Meanwhile, NLC opted for industrial action after the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government refused to yield to their minimum wage demands.
