Toyota Nigeria Limited (TNL) announces plans to launch three hybrid electric vehicles in Nigeria in the next three years as part of its commitment to promoting sustainable transportation and supporting the Nigerian government's green deal initiatives.
This was disclosed during the maiden edition of the Toyota Motor Show held on Thursday, June 27 to Saturday, June 29 this year at Lekki, Lagos.
First model expected by end of 2024
Speaking at the event, the TNL Managing Director, Mr. Kunle Ade-Ojo, said, “We are excited to announce our lineup of hybrid electric vehicles, which align with our commitment to sustainability and innovation. These models represent our dedication to providing Nigerian consumers with advanced, eco-friendly vehicle options.”
Toyota plans to introduce the cross-hybrid model first, which is expected by the end of 2024. Subsequently, the RAV4 hybrid will launch in 2025, with the Land Cruiser Prado hybrid expected in late 2025 or early 2026.
TNL also plans to support CNG-powered vehicles in Nigeria
In addition to launching hybrid models, Ade-Ojo disclosed TNL's intention to back the Federal Government's drive for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered vehicles. TNL will use its extensive workshop network to convert vehicles to CNG, making this eco-friendly initiative more accessible and convenient for Nigerian drivers.
Ade-Ojo, looking back on the event's success, expressed happiness with the attendance and the positive remarks made by guests.
“It was a wonderful outing. The opportunity for one-on-one interactions with our team was greatly appreciated by our customers,” he said. “The free vehicle diagnostics and the test drive experience were particularly well-received.”
Ade-Ojo further said that as Toyota Nigeria gears up to introduce its hybrid electric vehicles, the company continues to champion innovation and sustainability in the Nigerian automotive sector, setting the stage for a greener and more efficient future.
