This new invention was disclosed by George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) in Abuja during the launch of SLtv. According to him, the launch of SLtv is in line with the vision of Nigerians to “benefit from the abundant opportunities awaiting investors in the Nigerian economy.”
“SLTV has responded very loudly and clearly, and from the information made available to me, they are willing to give their fellow compatriots real value for their money regarding service quality and affordability,”
“Nigeria is an opportunity that is impossible to replicate or find elsewhere. The Federal Government wishes to assure the management of her full backing as they continue to do legitimate business in Nigeria’s broadcast industry.”

Reactions trail launch of SLtv
Surprisingly, SLtv gained popularity in its first four months of existence. This is mainly because of the affordable packages and quality services it delivers. TheRadar compiled the following reactions from netizens concerning the newly introduced TV platform.
A team from SLtv, led by Onyeri, went to the APC headquarters to admonish them to patronise the Indigenous brand. Onyeri also said the meeting was to showcase decoders and dishes to the chairman and the uniqueness of the brand by offering an alternative to other pay televisions in Nigeria.
“We are indeed grateful to be back here and to present to the chairman SLTV, the new-age TV network that is truly Indigenous, owned by Nigeria and the parent company is Metro Digital Limited.
“After much legal battle from oppositions, finally on March 7 2024, at Shehu Musa Yaradua Center, we launched the SLTV and the products are already in the market and we have over 58 channels and more are coming.
“This decoder can also work with any dish and it must not be the metro digital dish, and this is something that every Nigerian can afford because once you buy the decoder, the monthly subscription subsequently is 5,000, that is for the Prime which has all the live football channels on it, and we have the cheaper one which is 2500.”
Abdullahi Ganduje, The APC National Chairman remarked that: “We are happy to receive you because everyone, including our party and at the same time the government of the day will benefit from this beautiful innovation.”

“This is also called Metro TV. I have been using it for 3 years now. No subscription. A good installer can help you watch it for free.”
“DSTV owns almost all of the channels on this oohh! They don’t even see them as a competitor 😂”
“Totally agree. I'm discarding my DStv I'm tired of this nonsense”
“All the SS channels here are owned by DSTV. They can't survive. Why not acquire Sky sports rights and do away with DSTV completely?”
Timeline of DStv, GOtv price increments in Nigeria
Meanwhile, TheRadar previously reported that the prices of DSTV Channels had increased numerous times over the years.
Each increase was met with a lack of satisfaction from Nigerians, who were not pleased with the incessant hike in prices.
