  • NNPCL says 70 trucks of petrol were purchased from Dangote Refinery on Sunday
  • The company said contrary to speculations, the product was bought at N898 per litre and not N1,300
  • The Federal Government and the NNPCL had earlier announced the commencement of loading of the product from Dangote Refinery

The spokesperson of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Femi Soneye, says the company bought over 70 trucks of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, from Dangote Refinery at N898 per litre.

In a statement on Sunday, September 15, Soneye said the product was not purchased at N1,300 as speculated by the public, adding that the company expects to receive 16.8 million litres of petrol.

Soneye said, “We successfully loaded PMS at the Dangote Refinery today (Sunday). The claim that we purchased it at N1,300 per litre is incorrect. For this initial loading, the price from the refinery was N898 per litre.
“I can also confirm, in response to inquiries, that we will receive 16.8 million litres. So far, we have loaded over 70 trucks.”

FG had announced the loading of PMS from Dangote Refinery

The Federal Government, on Friday, September 13, announced that the first batch of PMS will be loaded from the Dangote Refinery on Sunday, September 15, under the management of the NNPCL.

This is a sequel to NNPCL’s earlier announcement to this effect by Segun Adedapo, the Executive Vice President of NNPCL’s Downstream Division

It said the development marks a milestone in the government’s effort to enhance local refining capacity and alleviate pressure on the naira.

Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, who was represented by Dr Zacch Adedeji, Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), confirmed the development on Friday, in Abuja.

After the Technical Sub-Committee meeting on the sale of crude oil to local refineries in naira, Edun announced that all agreements and modalities for the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approval on this initiative have been concluded.

He said, “The implementation committee, chaired by the Minister of Finance, alongside the technical committee, has worked intensely with NNPCL and the Dangote Refinery to finalise the details.
“We are pleased to announce that the loading of the first batch of PMS will begin on Sunday, September 15.”

Recall also that the FEC had earlier approved the sale of crude oil to local refineries and the corresponding purchase of petroleum products in naira, aimed at reducing pressure on the naira, eliminating unnecessary transaction costs and improving the availability of petroleum products across the country.

Improved petrol supply: NNPCL seeks private companies to operate Warri, Kaduna refineries

Meanwhile, TheRadar reported that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) wants to engage private companies that will oversee the operation and maintenance of its Warri and Kaduna refineries.

In a circular released through its official X account, NNPCL said the decision is to ensure reliability, sustainability and improved supply of petrol and enhance energy security, adding that the tender process of selecting the companies is in three stages: expression of interest (EOI), technical evaluation and commercial evaluation.
