The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the immediate past governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, in the sum of ₦500 million with two sureties.
Justice Emeka Nwite delivered the ruling on Friday, December 13. He emphasised that the granting of bail is at the court’s discretion and stated that the bail conditions were set in accordance with the applicable legal guidelines. Justice Nwite did not give further details on the specific charges or circumstances of the case that led to the bail application.
As part of the bail conditions, Yahaya Bello was required to provide two sureties, whose identities and properties will be verified by the court before the release can be executed. The bail sum of ₦500 million was also stipulated to ensure the commitment of the former governor to attending his court proceedings.
