To address the humanitarian crisis in Maiduguri, Borno State, the United Nations has announced a substantial donation of $6 million. 

This aid package is aimed at supporting victims of the devastating floods that have ravaged the region, causing widespread damage and displacement.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres, announced the donation during their visitation to Maduguri on Monday, September 16.

He expressed solidarity with the people of Maiduguri and emphasised the importance of a coordinated global response to the crisis. 

“We stand with the people of Maiduguri during this difficult time,” 

“This donation is a testament to our commitment to providing immediate relief and supporting the long-term recovery of those affected by this disaster.” -Guterres said. 

The United Nations has committed $6 million to provide urgent relief and facilitate recovery efforts for those affected by the recent floods in Maiduguri. The donation marks a significant step in addressing the immediate needs of the flood victims and will play a crucial role in the ongoing humanitarian response. 

The funds will be allocated to various relief activities, including the provision of temporary shelters, medical assistance, and access to clean drinking water.

FG plans upgrade of Borno dam to check flooding

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that the Federal Government had announced plans to upgrade the Alau Dam in Maiduguri, Borno State.

This announcement was disclosed in a press statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, Funmi Imuetinyan, on September 12.
