- A lecturer at Kogi State Polytechnic, Anslem Ojodomo, died after collapsing while teaching in class
- The Rector, Prof. Salihu Avidime, described the incident as a “deep personal shock”
- Ojodomo’s death occurred just weeks after another lecturer, Dr. Barnabas Akuba, passed away
Tragedy struck at Kogi State Polytechnic following the sudden death of a lecturer, Mr. Anslem Ojodomo, who reportedly collapsed while teaching in class.
The institution’s Rector, Salihu Avidime, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Friday, March 27, in Lokoja by the Acting Coordinator of the Directorate of Public Relations, Mr. John Onimisi.
He described the development as a “deep personal shock.”
Ojodomo’s death has thrown the academic community into mourning, coming barely a month after the passing of another lecturer, Dr. Barnabas Akuba, shortly after completing his PhD programme.
Eyewitness accounts from students revealed that the lecturer suddenly collapsed while addressing them during a lecture.
Despite immediate efforts to revive him, he was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
The back-to-back losses have heightened anxiety among staff and students, many of whom are now questioning the circumstances surrounding the sudden deaths within the institution.
Expressing his condolences, Avidime said he had met Ojodomo just hours before the tragic incident, noting that they exchanged pleasantries and even shook hands.
He described the late lecturer as a committed academic who made significant contributions to the institution, particularly in his role as Deputy Dean, Students Services, and as a lecturer in the Department of Public Administration.
“The Polytechnic community is mourning the loss of a promising academic and dependable colleague, who embodied scholarship, service, and character.
“Ojodomo’s contributions as Deputy Dean, Students Services, and lecturer are remembered as impactful and inspiring,” the rector said.
Born on October 5, 1992, Ojodomo held a Master’s degree from Prince Abubakar Audu University, where he had recently defended his PhD proposal.
He joined the polytechnic in 2021 and served on several institutional committees.
The management and entire academic community have extended their condolences to his family and the people of Igalamela/Odolu, praying for the repose of his soul.
