- President Bola Tinubu swore in Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance at the State House
- Oyedele previously led the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, proposing major tax system changes
- Doris Anite-Uzoka was redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as part of a cabinet reshuffle
President Bola Tinubu on Monday swore in Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance during a brief ceremony held at the State House.
Oyedele replaces Doris Anite-Uzoka, who has been redeployed to the Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State. The reassignment marks her third ministerial portfolio under the current administration.
The swearing-in follows Oyedele’s confirmation by the Nigerian Senate on Wednesday, 11 March 2026, just 24 hours after President Tinubu formally requested legislative approval for his appointment.
Before joining the Federal Executive Council, Oyedele served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he spearheaded efforts to reform and modernise the country’s tax system.
Under his leadership, the committee undertook a comprehensive review of Nigeria’s fiscal and tax policies, proposing reforms aimed at improving revenue generation, simplifying the tax structure and promoting a more efficient system for businesses and individuals.
The appointment of Oyedele is widely viewed as part of the Tinubu administration’s broader strategy to strengthen economic management and implement fiscal reforms designed to stabilise the economy and enhance government revenue.
Economic analysts have noted that Oyedele’s experience in tax policy and fiscal management could play a significant role in shaping the government’s financial strategies, particularly as Nigeria continues to pursue reforms aimed at boosting non-oil revenue.
Meanwhile, the redeployment of Anite-Uzoka to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning reflects an ongoing reshuffle within the cabinet as the administration seeks to align key officials with its economic and developmental priorities.
With his new role at the Finance Ministry, Oyedele is expected to work closely with senior economic officials to advance fiscal policy reforms and strengthen Nigeria’s financial framework.
