- President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Shu’aib Aliyu as PTDF Executive Secretary
- Aliyu replaces Ahmed Aminu, who resigned to pursue the 2027 Adamawa governorship race
- Tinubu also renewed Sule Abdulaziz’s tenure as TCN Managing Director/CEO for a second and final term
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Shu’aib Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF).
Aliyu takes over from Ahmed Aminu, who stepped down from the role to pursue his 2027 governorship ambition in Adamawa State.
In a related development, the President also renewed the tenure of Sule Abdulaziz as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for a second and final term.
Both decisions take immediate effect.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday, April 2, by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
On Aliyu’s appointment, Onanuga described him as a seasoned academic and administrator with a strong background in research and institutional leadership.
“His appointment underscores the President’s commitment to strengthening key institutions in the petroleum sector and advancing capacity development for Nigeria’s energy industry.
“The President expects him to leverage his wealth of experience to reposition the PTDF for greater impact in human capital development, innovation, and strategic support for the oil and gas sector in line with national priorities,” Onanuga said.
Regarding Abdulaziz’s reappointment, the Presidency said the decision followed a performance review of his leadership of the nation’s transmission network.
According to the statement, his tenure has seen notable progress in grid stability, expansion of transmission capacity, and system modernisation.
It also credited him with advancing regional electricity cooperation through the West African Power Pool.
President Tinubu urged both appointees to carry out their responsibilities with diligence and integrity, in line with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
