President Bola Tinubu on Thursday, April 23, convened a high-level meeting with governors elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting, which took place at Aso Rock Presidential Villa, was initially scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Council Chamber but eventually commenced around 5 p.m. after it was relocated to the Conference Room of the President’s Office.

Governors present at the closed-door session included Babagana Zulum, Hope Uzodimma, Inuwa Yahaya, Hyacinth Alia, Biodun Oyebanji, Peter Mbah, and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, among others.

Some states were represented by their deputy governors.

As of the time of filing this report, the agenda of the meeting had not been officially disclosed.

However, the gathering comes shortly after an emergency closed-door session between Tinubu and the extended leadership of the Senate held on Wednesday evening.

At that meeting, Senate Majority Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, revealed that “far-reaching decisions were taken” on “matters of urgent national importance.”

He noted that the resolutions were prompted by deliberations during a prior executive session of the Senate earlier that day.

The timing of the engagement with APC governors has raised expectations of coordinated policy direction and political alignment between the presidency and state governments.

Analysts suggest the discussions may revolve around pressing national concerns, governance priorities, and strategic party interests ahead of future political milestones.

While details remain undisclosed, the meeting underscores ongoing consultations within the ruling party’s leadership as Nigeria navigates key economic and security challenges.

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu held a high-level security meeting at the State House, Abuja, with top military and intelligence officials following growing concerns over national security.

The emergency session came amid heightened security tensions in the country, including the recent decision by the United States to authorise the voluntary departure of non-essential embassy staff from Abuja.

The move followed what the US State Department described as a “deteriorating security situation” in parts of Nigeria.
