Former Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani, has vowed to ensure that any funds allegedly misappropriated during former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s tenure are returned to the Kaduna State government treasury.
Speaking to journalists in Kaduna over the weekend, Sani described the previous administration as a period marked by tyranny and abuses of power. He alleged that a $350 million loan obtained by El-Rufai was largely misappropriated, with only a few projects executed, particularly in Kaduna North Local Government Area, leaving the state as the second most indebted in the country.
“The $350m loan collected by the immediate past governor of Kaduna State was looted, with just few projects executed in Kaduna North Local Government Area, while making Kaduna the second most indebted State in Nigeria,” Sani stated.
The former lawmaker emphasised that every kobo allegedly taken unlawfully would be recovered and restored, promising that victims of governance abuses would see justice served.
Beyond accountability, Sani expressed optimism for the political future of the state and nation. He declared support for the re-election of Governor Uba Sani in Kaduna State and for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
“The ruling party should respect the principle of rotation of power and allow a southern candidate. Buhari was in power for eight years. It is fair and just in the interest of this country,” Sani said, urging that Southern Nigerians should be allowed to decide the next presidency in accordance with zoning principles.
He further highlighted that his group would work tirelessly to ensure the re-election of both Uba Sani and Tinubu, signalling strong alignment with the ruling party’s electoral objectives in the state.
Sani’s statements underscore ongoing debates about governance, accountability, and regional equity in Nigeria’s political system, reflecting persistent public scrutiny over past administrations and the strategic planning of future elections.
