The Senator representing Ogun West and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has appealed to his supporters to refrain from attacking other aspirants ahead of the 2027 governorship race in Ogun State.
Adeola’s appeal followed increasing political activities and public declarations by individuals expressing interest in contesting the governorship under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
In a statement personally signed and made available to journalists on Monday, the lawmaker said his attention had been drawn to comments and opinions circulating, particularly on social media, in response to declarations by some respected citizens aspiring to lead the state in 2027.
He noted that while many of his supporters have been urging him to contest the governorship, some had resorted to making what he described as “detestable statements” against other aspirants within the same party.
Adeola clarified that he had not made any official statement regarding any aspirant’s ambition and had also chosen not to respond to what he termed unprovoked media attacks directed at his person or political career. He further stressed that he had not authorised anyone to speak or act on his behalf in that regard.
“I am presently focused on serving my constituents in Ogun West Senatorial District, Ogun State and indeed, Nigeria,” he stated. “It is not in my character to derogate, demean or ridicule any of my fellow party members on the basis of their genuine aspirations.”
The senator urged his supporters, well-wishers and loyalists to desist from attacking the personality or ideas of any aspirant, emphasising the need for a rancour-free process as the party prepares for primaries and the general elections.
He reminded party members that they all belong to the same political family and must avoid bitterness and internal divisions.
Adeola also called for continued support for the administration of Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and President Bola Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Our focus should be on continuity of the ongoing reforms of our great party at both the state and national levels, not on unproductive internal bickering,” he added.
