The lawmaker representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has obtained the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship nomination forms ahead of the 2027 Ogun State election, signalling his formal entry into the race for the state’s top political office.
The nomination forms, valued at N50 million, were picked up on his behalf in Abuja on Tuesday. The move was confirmed during the presentation of the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms by the APC National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Argungu, who declared the process open.
Adeola, a serving senator and influential political figure in Ogun politics, was represented by a proxy during the collection of the forms, a development widely interpreted as the beginning of his governorship ambition within the ruling party.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already released the timetable for the 2027 general elections. According to the commission, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2027, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for Saturday, February 6, 2027.
INEC also confirmed that party primaries, including the resolution of disputes arising from them, will take place between April 23, 2026, and May 30, 2026. Political campaigns are expected to begin on August 19, 2026, for presidential and National Assembly candidates, while governorship and state assembly campaigns will commence on September 9, 2026.
Adeola’s entry into the governorship race adds another layer of competition within the APC in Ogun State, where political stakeholders are already positioning ahead of what is expected to be a closely contested succession battle.
The senator, who has built a strong political profile across Ogun West and beyond, is seen as a key contender whose influence could shape internal party dynamics as the primaries approach.
Further details are expected as the APC continues its nomination process and aspirants intensify consultations ahead of the official campaign period.
