  • The initiative aims to improve how effectively public institutions function by equipping top officials with the tools needed to perform optimally
  • Beneficiaries were urged to see the gesture not just as a reward, but as a call to greater responsibility, accountability, and commitment to public service

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, March 24, presented official vehicles to Level 17 officers in the Lagos State Public Service, describing the initiative as a practical step to enhance service delivery across the state’s bureaucracy.

The governor, who disclosed the development via his X handle, said the beneficiaries are directors who play critical roles in ensuring that ministries, departments, and agencies deliver results efficiently.

He explained that providing official vehicles was a deliberate move to enable the officers perform their responsibilities more effectively.

“I presented new official vehicles to our Level 17 officers across the Lagos State Public Service. These are Directors who play a key role in how our Ministries, Departments, and Agencies deliver results. Supporting them is a practical step to help them do their work better.
“A motivated public service is at the heart of good governance. When people are properly equipped, they take more ownership, stay focused, and deliver with greater commitment,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu added that the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen service delivery and improve performance standards within the system.

“This is part of our ongoing effort to strengthen service delivery and raise the standard of performance across the system,” he stated.

At a separate presentation held at the Lagos House Pavilion in Ikeja, the governor handed over 100 brand-new vehicles to substantive directors on Grade Level 17, describing the move as an investment in governance and institutional capacity.

“This presentation of 100 brand new cars to our substantive directors is a deliberate investment in the machinery of governance.
“It is part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional capacity, improve governance, and ensure that those saddled with critical responsibilities are well supported to deliver effectively,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He urged the beneficiaries to see the gesture as a call to greater responsibility, accountability, and dedication to public service, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to staff welfare.

The Lagos State Head of Service, Olabode Agoro, commended the governor, describing the initiative as morale-boosting and a clear recognition of hard work and excellence within the civil service.

Agoro noted that the gesture would motivate directors and other officers to remain committed to their duties.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Shakirat Adeosun expressed appreciation to the governor, stating that the vehicles would improve efficiency and make it easier for them to carry out their responsibilities.

She assured that the directors would continue to support government policies and deliver quality service.

Tuesday’s distribution marks the third time the governor has carried out such an initiative.

In January 2023, shortly after his re-election, 100 vehicles were distributed across key sectors, including education, health, and the mainstream civil service.

Another batch was also presented in July 2024 at the State Secretariat in Alausa as part of a rotational scheme to ensure broader access over time.

Level 17 represents the highest cadre in Nigeria’s public service structure, occupied by directors who head departments and serve as the most senior career officers in government ministries and agencies.
